Sheffield Plasterers — Internal Plastering & Dry Lining Specialists
P&R Solutions provides professional plastering throughout Sheffield, covering every S postcode from S1 city centre to S35 and beyond. Our Sheffield plasterers specialise in float and skim, full replasters on bare masonry, artex removal, and plasterboard dry lining — everything a residential or commercial property needs to achieve flat, smooth, paint-ready surfaces.
Plastering in Sheffield's older housing stock requires particular skill. Victorian and Edwardian terraces across S6, S10, and S11 typically have lime-based substrates that respond differently to modern materials. Our plasterers in Sheffield have extensive experience working with both traditional and modern systems — applying the right bonding agents, mix ratios, and application techniques for the specific substrate in front of them.
For newer builds and extensions, we offer full plasterboard dry lining systems — dot-and-dab plasterboard, metal stud partitions, ceiling boarding, and insulated lining — followed by a finish skim coat to a flat, seamless surface. Whether you need a single room re-plastered or a complete house, the same qualified Sheffield plasterers carry out every job from start to finish.
Every plastering job carries our 5-year workmanship guarantee. If any cracking or delamination occurs due to our workmanship within that period, we return and remedy it at no charge. We operate a strict no-deposit policy on all plastering work across Sheffield — you pay nothing until you've inspected the finished surfaces and are completely satisfied.
With 100+ five-star Google reviews and a reputation built on consistently high standards across S1–S36, P&R Solutions is Sheffield's most reviewed independent plastering contractor. Free site survey, fully itemised quote — call 07595 399525 or request a quote online.
Flat Walls. Perfect Finish. First Time.
S10, Sheffield — fresh skim coat finish by P&R Solutions. Ready for decorating.
Professional plastering is the foundation of every quality interior. The smoothness of your walls and ceilings determines how good your decoration looks — and how long it lasts.
Get a Quote ↗A properly plastered room gives a perfectly flat, smooth surface that takes paint or wallpaper flawlessly. The difference between professional and amateur plastering is immediately visible under a raking light — we guarantee a finish that looks right every time. No hollows, no trowel drag marks, no visible joins.
Replastering resolves cracked, hollow, or uneven plaster permanently — rather than papering over the problem. A sound, flat plaster surface is the only long-term solution to plaster that has lost adhesion, suffered damp damage, or simply deteriorated with age in Sheffield's older housing stock.
A dense, properly applied plaster finish contributes to both thermal retention and sound reduction. Insulated plasterboard systems (dot-and-dab with backed board) dramatically improve room warmth by creating a thermal break between the external masonry wall and the interior — particularly effective in Sheffield's older solid-wall terraces and semis.
Cracked, hollow, or artex-covered walls are one of the most common negative features buyers and surveyors note in Sheffield properties. Fresh plastering throughout transforms the perception of a room instantly — creating a clean, modern interior that adds real value and makes decoration straightforward for the next owner.
Every plastering job we carry out is covered by our 5-year workmanship guarantee. If any cracking or delamination occurs due to our workmanship within that period, we return and remedy it at no charge. Zero deposit throughout — you pay only when the work is 100% complete and you've inspected it yourself.
From single-room skims to full-house replastering, new-build extensions to artex removal — P&R Solutions deliver a flawless plaster finish across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. No deposit. Pay only when you're completely satisfied.

How We Plaster Your Walls.
Sheffield — dry lining installation in progress. Preparation is what determines the finish.
A professional plaster finish follows 6 stages — each one matters. Cutting corners at any stage shows up in the finished result.
Book a Visit ↗We assess the substrate — walls and ceiling — for moisture, hollow sections, previous repairs, and structural movement. The right plaster system is specified for the surface type. We advise honestly whether a skim or full replaster is the right solution before any commitment is made.
Loose and hollow plaster is removed. Surfaces are cleaned to a sound substrate. Masonry is dampened and PVA bonded to control suction. Angle beads and stop beads are fixed to all external angles. Good preparation is the single biggest factor in whether the finished plaster stays on.
For traditional two-coat work, a bonding or scratch coat is applied to build up the level and create a mechanical key for the finish coat. On plasterboard walls, the boarding is taped and jointed at this stage. The first coat sets the foundation — the finish coat can only be as flat as the undercoat beneath it.
Once the first coat has set sufficiently, it is ruled off with a straight edge to produce a flat, level surface across the full wall or ceiling. High and low spots are identified and corrected. Getting the levels right at this stage is critical — it determines whether the final finish reads as truly flat.
A thin finish plaster (2-3mm) is applied in two passes — laid on and then trowelled back to a perfectly smooth, hard finish. The plasterer works the surface until completely flat, tight, and free of trowel marks. This coat is what you see after decoration. It is the most skilled part of the job and where the difference between good and great plastering is decided.
We advise on drying conditions to prevent cracking — typically 3-5 days before mist coat. A full quality inspection with the client before sign-off. Five-year workmanship guarantee provided. Zero deposit throughout — you pay only when the work is complete and you're fully satisfied.
Three Methods. One Right Finish.
Fulwood, Sheffield
We'll advise the right method for your property at the free site visit — no obligation.
Traditional two-coat for solid masonry. Dry lining for speed and insulation. Bonding & skim for uneven or patchy surfaces. We'll recommend the right approach at your free site visit.
Discuss Options ↗The gold standard for solid masonry walls — brick, block, and stone. A bonding or scratch coat builds up the level; a finish skim coat creates the smooth surface. Traditional two-coat plaster is the most durable system and the best choice for Sheffield's older solid-wall properties. Typical room cost: £250–£600 depending on size and prep.
Plasterboard fixed to stud partitions or dot-and-dab applied to masonry walls, then taped, jointed and skimmed. Faster than traditional wet plastering and excellent for new build extensions, partition walls, and insulated wall upgrades. Insulated backing board (dot-and-dab) significantly improves the thermal performance of solid masonry walls — a common upgrade in Sheffield homes.
Bonding undercoat applied over exposed brick, block, or patchy existing surfaces to create an even, level base, then finish skimmed to a smooth surface. The most flexible approach — ideal for rooms with mixed substrate conditions (part old plaster, part masonry, part board), irregular surfaces, or where a sound existing plaster needs bringing to a consistent level before skimming.
Costs by Room & Property.

What affects the final price of plastering — the key variables that determine whether your project is at the lower or upper end of the guide figures.
Get Itemised Quote ↗Sound, flat existing plaster that only needs a skim coat is the cheapest option. Hollow or crumbling plaster that needs hacking off and full re-doing takes significantly more time. Artex ceilings require mechanical removal before replastering. We assess the surface condition at quotation so there are no surprises.
Larger rooms take more time and material. High ceilings add complexity and stilts-work. Rooms with many doors, windows, or alcoves require more cutting and detailing. We measure precisely at quotation — our prices are based on actual area, not rough estimates.
A single finish skim over sound plasterboard is the quickest and most cost-effective work we do. Traditional two-coat work (bonding then skim) takes longer per room. Rooms requiring a bonding or floating coat to level out an uneven substrate add time and material cost. We specify the right system and price accordingly.
Occupied properties require furniture covering and protecting — factor in time for this. Properties mid-renovation where other trades are working are typically faster to plaster as rooms are cleared. Parking and material delivery access can also affect logistics on tight Sheffield terraced streets. We discuss site conditions at quotation.

Common Questions Answered.
Everything Sheffield homeowners ask us about plastering, skimming and dry lining. Click any question for the full answer.
Call 07595 399525 ↗A standard room skim costs £200–£400 for walls only or £300–£600 for walls and ceiling. A full terraced house typically costs £1,500–£2,500 and a semi-detached £2,500–£4,500. Full renovation and new-build plastering starts from £3,000. We provide a free, fully itemised quotation with no obligation — zero deposit required.
Fresh plaster takes 3-5 days to dry enough for a mist coat, and up to 4-6 weeks to fully cure before standard emulsion. Open windows and use gentle background heat — avoid pointing fan heaters directly at fresh plaster as this causes cracking. We give you a clear drying programme on completion of every job.
Yes — if the existing plaster is sound (not hollow or crumbling), we can apply a fresh finish skim coat directly over it. We check by tapping across the surface. Hollow sections are cut back and made good first. The surface is PVA bonded to control suction. If extensively hollow, a full replaster gives better long-term results — we'll advise honestly.
Plastering is the full process — applying base coat(s) plus a finish coat. Skimming specifically means applying a thin (2-3mm) finish coat over an existing surface — usually plasterboard or sound existing plaster. Skimming is faster but only suitable where the existing surface is structurally sound. Full plastering involves a thicker bonding coat first, followed by the skim.
Yes — we regularly carry out patch repairs for cracks, impact damage, and isolated hollow sections. Good patch work needs to be feathered and blended so it's invisible under paint. We advise honestly whether a patch will give a good result or whether a full replaster is better value — which it often is if more than 30-40% of the plaster is hollow.
Dry lining means fixing plasterboard to walls or ceilings instead of applying wet plaster directly to masonry. It's standard for new-build stud partitions, insulated wall upgrades (dot-and-dab with insulated backing board), and ceiling refits. Plasterboard is taped, jointed, and skimmed. Faster than traditional wet plastering and excellent for achieving level results on uneven masonry.
Yes — artex removal and re-skim is one of our most requested services in Sheffield. We check for asbestos first (pre-1999 artex must be tested before work begins). Artex is either mechanically removed back to the substrate, or — where it is sound and stable — a float coat is applied over it before the finish skim. The result is a completely smooth, flat ceiling.
A standard single room skim (walls and ceiling) takes one day — most rooms are completed in 6-8 hours. Larger rooms, full replastering, or artex removal take 1.5–2 days. A full house replaster is usually 3-5 working days. We provide a clear programme at quotation so you know what to expect before we start.
Yes — ceilings are a core part of our plastering work and are included in all room quotations as standard. We skim and replaster ceilings of all sizes including large open-plan areas. We also carry out ceiling repairs for cracks, water damage, sagging plasterboard, and artex removal. Ceiling plastering is included in the same room price.
Every plastering job is covered by our 5-year workmanship guarantee. If any cracking or delamination occurs due to our workmanship within that period, we return and remedy it at no charge. Zero deposit throughout — you pay only when the work is 100% complete and you're satisfied. All quotations are fully itemised with no hidden costs.
Plastering is a wet trade — the room being worked on will have plaster splashes, some surface preparation dust, and damp conditions while the plaster is wet. We protect all floor areas with dust sheets and work around any furniture you can't move. We'd recommend clearing the room completely where possible, or at minimum moving items to the centre and covering them. The mess is entirely confined to the room being plastered — the rest of your home is unaffected. We clean up thoroughly at the end of each day and leave the site tidy on completion.
Hairline cracks are common and usually not a structural concern — they occur as new plaster dries and shrinks, or as a building settles with seasonal temperature changes. Fine map cracking is cosmetic and can be filled and painted over. Wider cracks, cracks appearing repeatedly in the same place, or cracks above door and window openings may indicate structural movement and should be investigated before plastering over them. Cracks that sound hollow when tapped mean the plaster has de-bonded from the substrate and needs stripping back and replastering. We'll diagnose the cause at the free site visit before recommending the right fix.
In most cases yes — skimming over existing tiles is a common and cost-effective alternative to a full strip-out. The tiles need to be sound and well-bonded to the wall; any loose or hollow tiles must be removed and replaced first. The tile surface is abraded, treated with a bonding agent, then a specialist base coat is applied to build over the grout lines before the finish skim. We've done this on many Sheffield properties. We'll advise whether it's right for your specific tiles and room at the site visit.
Yes — this is important and often skipped, causing problems. Fresh plaster is very porous and will suck moisture straight out of ordinary emulsion, leaving a patchy surface that doesn't adhere properly. Always apply a mist coat first — standard emulsion diluted roughly 3:1 with water. The mist coat soaks in, seals the surface, and creates the right base for your topcoats. Apply it once the plaster is fully dry — when it transitions from dark pink to a uniform pale buff colour. After the mist coat has dried, apply two full coats of emulsion in the usual way.
Yes — bathroom plastering requires slightly different materials. In wet areas directly adjacent to showers or baths, we use moisture-resistant plasterboard (blue board or aqua board) before skimming, which resists moisture penetration better than standard grey board. For areas that will be tiled, a float coat without a finish skim is often specified to give the tiles a mechanical key. For painted areas like ceilings and walls away from the wet zone, standard plasterboard and skim is fine. We'll specify the right system for each zone of your bathroom at the site survey.
